Capturing anything

Capture is built to be faster than opening a new note. Everything is committed to your device before anything else happens — search indexing, text extraction and optional AI run afterwards in the background.

Ways to capture

• Type in the capture box on Home, or press Cmd+Shift+Enter (Ctrl+Shift+Enter on Windows) anywhere in Thread to open it.
• Paste text, links or images from the clipboard.
• Drop files onto the box: PDFs, Office and OpenDocument files, images, text and Markdown, audio. See supported formats.
• Record a voice note with the microphone button.

On desktop, Enter saves while Shift+Enter adds a new line. On mobile devices, Enter creates a line break so you can write multi-line notes comfortably, and the Save note button commits your capture.

Editing, formatting and pinning

Open any note to edit it. The toolbar has headings, bold, _italic_, strikethrough, lists, quotes and code. Press Save note or Cmd+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows) to save; “Unsaved changes” shows until you do, and Thread also saves when you leave the page or switch apps. Pin important notes to the top with Pin, or move a note into a Space from the Space chip under its title.

Attachments belong to the note

Attach files, images or a voice recording while writing (paperclip or drop them on the box): they’re saved with that note, not as separate items. On an open note, use Attach to add more. A file saved on its own, without text, becomes its own item as before.

The Inbox

New captures without a Space land in the Inbox. Move them into a Space when it suits you — or don’t; search finds them either way.

Duplicates

If you save something you already have, Thread says “You saved this before — open it” instead of silently creating a copy.

Mentions and links

• @Anna or @"Anna Berg" links a person.
• [[Project Atlas]] links a topic or an existing page.
• Email addresses are recognized as people.
