Use your own API key with your notes
Connect Anthropic, OpenAI or Google with your own API key. The provider bills you; Orbit Thread does not resell AI.
Prefer a cloud model? Add your own key in Settings → AI → My API key. You need to be signed in, because the key is stored on the server, not in your browser.
- Keys are encrypted at rest and never sent back to your browser — Thread only shows the last characters.
- Requests go through Thread’s server relay to the provider. Your provider bills you directly; Thread adds no charges.
- Items marked Don’t use with AI or Keep on this device only are never sent.
You can delete your key at any time; it’s removed immediately.
There is no Thread-paid AI. If you use neither a local model nor your own key, AI simply stays off — everything else works.
