Notion alternative

A Notion alternative for getting the work back.

Notion is built for writing and arranging pages. Orbit Thread is built for the notes, files, recordings and decisions you need again — searchable on this device, with answers that cite the source.

Choose Thread when

  • The useful part is a PDF, a slide deck, a photo or a voice note, not a page you have to remember to open.
  • You want search on this device, including offline, and an answer that opens the note, page or timestamp.
  • A decision should keep its earlier version when the plan changes.
  • You want specific Notion pages in Thread, not a migration of the whole wiki.

Stay with Notion when

  • You need databases, views and relations.
  • A team is editing the same pages together today. Shared Spaces in Thread are not available yet.
  • The wiki itself is the thing you are building.

Side by side

Built for

Notion. Writing and arranging pages.

Orbit Thread. Getting notes, files and decisions back.

Where it starts

Notion. Notion’s cloud.

Orbit Thread. This browser, before anything is uploaded.

Files and voice

Notion. Attachments on a page.

Orbit Thread. PDFs by page, Office files, images read with local OCR, voice transcribed on this device.

Asking

Notion. Notion AI inside the wiki.

Orbit Thread. Ask cites the source. AI stays off until you choose a local model or your own key. Thread does not resell AI.

Moving

Notion. The workspace stays in Notion.

Orbit Thread. Import the pages you choose. Subpages come along only if you tick them. Databases stay in Notion.

Sharing

Notion. People edit the same pages together.

Orbit Thread. One person, with optional sync across your own devices. Shared Spaces are not available yet.

How people start

Bring the pages you actually use

Open Thread on this device with no account. When you want pages from Notion, sign in, connect Notion, and import the pages you tick. Sending a Thread document back to a Notion page is a separate step, not a live two-way sync.

Practical questions

Is Orbit Thread a Notion replacement?

No. It does not replace databases, views or a team editing one wiki. It is the place for notes, files, voice and decisions you need to find again, with search and cited answers on this device.

Can I import my Notion pages?

Yes. You choose the pages. Each selected page becomes one Thread document. Subpages are imported only if you ask for them. Databases and linked database views stay in Notion.

Does Thread sync with Notion in the background?

No. Import and send happen when you run them. If the Notion page changed since your last send, Thread will not overwrite it.

What does it cost?

A 30-day trial needs no credit card. After that, Thread is €10/month or €96/year. If you don’t subscribe, the workspace stays readable, searchable and exportable.
